“Habitat houses are special places for a special reason: They are built with love in mortar joints." It is the love of volunteer partners who pick up hammers to help build the homes; it is the love of donor partners who contribute money and materials; and the love of partner families who contribute "sweat equity" in constructing their own homes.
Houses built in love are houses where hope is also in the home. While hope, like love, cannot be touched, it can be seen in the tears of joy shed by a mother as her Habitat house is dedicated; in the bright, shining eyes of a youngster seeing his or her very own room for the first time; in the work-worn hands of a father carefully planting a tree in the yard of his new Habitat home. Hope, cultivated in a loving house, will spread into other areas of a family’s life as surely as that tree’s branches will spread out over the yard in the coming years.
We have seen it happen. We have seen the homeowners return to school and end up with new confidence and far better jobs. We learn often of a turnaround in children’s performance at school. We see families so long robbed of hope believing again in themselves, in others and in the future.
Throughout the world, Habitat for Humanity is working to eliminate poverty housing and, to date has built houses providing shelter to more than 1,000,000 people. But that is just a start. Your support today can help us accelerate the pace of building houses… and hope. It is our chance to really show our love in our community and show the world how the North Bay and Blue Sky Region really cares. It is with your help that together we can make a difference.
How Does it Work?
Through volunteer labor and tax deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds simple, decent houses with partner families in need of shelter. Habitat houses are sold to the families at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowner’s monthly mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses. Home owners are chosen on the basis of need, willingness to partner and the ability to repay the no-interest loan.
How can you help?
GET INVOLVED! Pray for the work of Habitat for Humanity. Contribute financially to HFH or your local Habitat Affiliate, and/or participate in Habitat fund-raising events. Habitat affiliates need people to help build, serve on committees and to spread the word about Habitat’s work.
There is a place for you in this outreach to help others right here in the North Bay and Blue Sky Region. This is an opportunity for you to respond and to help others regardless of your particular talent.
